Alan Clements responds to Burma crisis - CBC Radio interview

Rangoon Under Siege September 27th Rangoon was covered with the smoke from gunfire today as armed forces loyal to the dictators ruling this ancient land used lethal force to disperse tens of thousands of unarmed peaceful demonstrators in the second day of the regime’s crackdown on the largest democracy uprising since 1988. Nine protesters were killed and scores of others were mercilessly beaten. Troops opened fire into the protesting crowds using automatic weapons. The demonstrators, 70,000 strong, were emboldened by the regime’s merciless overnight raid on at least three Buddhist monasteries in Rangoon. Soldiers using their rifle butts beat and arrested about 700 monks - those thought to be spearheading the (nonviolent) challenge to the dictatorship.

Listen to a 7 minute radio interview with Alan Clements on CBC Radio Canada discussing the Buddhist monk-and-nun led revolution in Burma.

    Free Burma!
International Bloggers’ Day for Burma on the 4th of October

International bloggers are preparing an action to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. We want to set a sign for freedom and show our sympathy for these people who are fighting their cruel regime without weapons. These Bloggers are planning to refrain from posting to their blogs on October 4 and just put up one Banner then, underlined with the words „Free Burma!“.
